Watercolor Glazing Technique Page two |
Fourth Layer: The fourth layer is painted with red in the shadow areas. Tomatos have smooth skin. To keep the smooth look on the tomato, paint with water over the edges you just painted so when you glaze additional layers you won't have hard edges to deal with. Let it dry completely and paint the fifth layer. |
Fifth Layer: Continue glazing layers of red paint, leaving highlighted areas for shine. Now you can work on the stems and leaves. You will want an paint a layer of yellow first and let it dry. Then put on a layer of blue to help define the veins in the leaves. While letting that area dry, I layed down a layer of yellow ochre on the bottom half the background and added blue shadows under the tomatos. |
Background: When everything was dry, I finished the stems and leaves with green. I then worked on the background layering yellow ochre, blue and green. |
